A different route
for everyone

All of  a sudden, you find yourself at a turning point in your career. You know you want to change course, and not continue doing (for much longer) what you have been doing so far. But what is it that really suits you? The answer to this question turns out to be a different route for everyone. It is, however, very unlike that Carrièreladder would not be able to help you find the answer to your questions. So far, this has not happened, and our clients have confidently taken the important step: to engage in work in which they are meaningful and get fulfilment from.

It was not your
own choice

You have seized every career opportunity and ‘climbed up the ladder’. You are quite proud of what you have achieved, but it was never a real choice. You have actually never really thought about where you wanted to go.

And now you are halfway through your career and still have a respectable number of years to go. There is still time for a career switch. But… you only know what you no longer want, namely, to no longer do what is expected of you in your current job. You have done that too many times and seen too much. You are ready for something else, but what? And how?

What is
left of you?

Your partner has been able to develop. He has taken courses and training programmes. And you have facilitated this endlessly. So that he could attend meetings, learn, attend retreats, whatever. Thanks to you, the children have also been able to attend school, swimming lessons, music lessons, and much more. This never felt like an obligation. You did it with pleasure, but now you think: ‘Wait a minute, it’s about time I got something back.’ A strong feeling, you may even feel slightly angry, passed over or irritated. You are ready for something else, but what does that look like? And how to get there?

You are good
at what you do

Colleagues with whom you have worked for years suddenly leave and go do something else. Apparently it has something to do with age, life stage or the labour market. They all seem to know what will make them happier than their current job. And you know that you are good at the work you do now, but you also don’t want to sit around doing the same thing you did last week, last month and three years ago. But what is it that you would like to do?

It can no longer be like that
IN STEPS

to the work you get fulfilment from!

If you don’t do something now, you will still be saying in five years’ time that you don’t know what you want and only know what you don’t want. And you will never know what could have happened if you had found that “perfect job” vacancy and had been given that job.

1. Explore and discover

The first step is to discover the job in which you are meaningful and get fulfilment from, thereby discovering who you are, but above all what you want and what work you would most like to do.

2. find

The second step is more practical in nature. You will learn where you can find this job, how you can distinguish yourself from others on the labour market, and how you can be the first to know if a position becomes available at the organisation where you would like to work.

3. Apply successfully

The third step is even more practical. You will learn how to write a catchy letter, create a winning resume, and conduct a rock-solid job interview to get the job you want most.

Which steps would you like to take?

the focus will be on you

During the coaching sessions, the focus will be on you and your questions. The preparatory assignments in the online learning environment are there to encourage you to learn more about yourself and the work you get fulfilment from, about the labour market, where you can find vacancies and how to apply successfully.

Whick steps are
relevant to you

I will work with you to discover which steps are relevant to you and how you can easily take them:

A

You will become clear about which events have been particularly significant for you.

A

You will map out what you already have at home, what drives you and also what you have to offer.

A

You will start working on your most important motivation, namely your passion and what you long for in your work.

A

You work out what you want your work environment to look like: what products or services will be provided, the people you will work with and for, the physical workstation, the range of tasks, the organisational structure, the core values, and culture.

A

You find out what work you get fulfilment from and where you can find specific education, training, or courses to do so.

A

You overcome your resistance to change and draw out the best in yourself in the work you are going to do.

A

You discover the golden opportunities in the labour market and tap into the hidden part of the job market to find exactly the vacancy you want to apply for.

A

You will learn how to create a winning resume, write a catchy motivation letter, and make a strong impression during your job interview.

A

You will learn to negotiate your terms of employment and stand up for what you are worth.

You will not
be doing it all by yourself!

The step-by-step plan works within nine months and I am sure that you will also succeed in getting that new job. You will receive intensive, personal guidance from me in one-on-one coaching sessions. In addition, I will take you through the process step by step in an online learning environment. All materials are available to you 24/7 and, if necessary, you can make use of ‘coaching on demand’ within the programme.

You will learn at your own pace about yourself and the work you get fulfilment from, about the labour market, where to find vacancies and how to apply successfully.

Client experiences

I was stuck in a cycle of cynicism and didn’t believe I could pursue a creative career that was both aligned with my values and that provided me with enough income — I thought only “rich” and “lucky” people could afford that, and that I was forever bound to do jobs that I dreaded. With a wealth of knowledge, experience and an energizing personality, Marjan guided me through the realization that there was nothing to lose in pursuing the career that I wanted, but there was everything to lose in being stuck. Thanks to her support, I was able to start my own copywriting business and finally find meaning in my work.

Arianna Lopes

I already knew for sure that I didn’t want to work in fundamental research anymore; I had even quit my job. But what I wanted to do instead, I really had no idea. Marjan takes you by the hand to find the answer to the question “What do I want?” I learned a lot about myself during Marjan’s self-reflection assignments. She really listens to you. It is tailor-made coaching. She challenges you with her questions and always gives you the feeling that you are doing well and that you are on the right track. After our conversations I always went home with new motivation, a head full of ideas and the confidence that everything would turn out well. I felt well guided in this process, and I wouldn’t have wanted to do it alone.

Eike Mahlandt

I was laid off, I was really enjoying myself there and really didn’t know what to do in terms of work when I came to Marjan. She is an inspiring woman full of enthusiasm, takes time for you and she listens very carefully to what you say and feel. The biggest learning moments for me are listening to my gut feelings and my heart. That I should also sometimes take risks, not be afraid of the unknown and dare to speak up. I learned how and where to use my talents. Marjan helped me regain my self-confidence. And I found a very nice new job, which I am very happy about.

FREQUENTLY QUESTIONS

I often find questions in my mailbox. The most frequently asked questions can be found here. It is always possible that you may have further questions. I always try to answer these within two working days.

Will the coaching sessions take place online or offline?

I prefer to do the sessions offline in my practice in Uithoorn. If there is no other option or distance is an issue, we will do the (follow-up) sessions via MS Teams or Zoom.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes, that is possible. You can choose to pay in instalments. However, it is cheaper to pay in one go.

How long does the coaching programme last?

The programme lasts a maximum of 9 months after you have registered. We schedule the coaching sessions at a time that is convenient for both of us. After these 9 months, any coaching sessions that you have not scheduled will expire.

What if I am on holiday during my programme?

The 10 coaching sessions for the programme take place within 9 months of your registration. So it is not a problem if you take a break.

How much time does the coaching programme take?

We have 10 coaching sessions in 9 months. I usually give you an assignment for the next session, so you should allow at least half a day of preparation time per week. The coaching sessions last a maximum of 75 minutes.

There are many career coaching programmes, what is the added value of the Career Ladder approach?

The internet is full of information about being stuck in your career. Chances are you have already checked it out. The thing is that most programmes focus on what your dream job could be. The Carrièreladder coaching programme, however, goes a few steps above and beyond: how you are going to find out what kind of work you get fulfilment from, where you can find that work and how to apply successfully for it.

What should I do if my employer pays for the programme?

It’s great that your employer is paying! Together we will make agreements about how we will work together, and the invoice will be sent to your employer.
